A vet who swapped the consulting room for the riverbank (well, mostly)

Sean qualified as a vet at University College Dublin and spent six years in practice treating everything from family dogs to zoo animals and injured wildlife. In 2016 he moved into an industry vet role, which gave him back the time for his lifelong passion: protecting nature.

That year he founded Ealing Wildlife Group (link to ealingwildlifegroup.com) with a few bat walks under a Victorian viaduct. Ten years on, the group has won the King’s Award for Voluntary Service, reintroduced harvest mice, given peregrine falcons a home and, most famously, brought beavers back to London. Along the way, Sean has become one of the UK’s most trusted voices on pets, wildlife and urban rewilding.

Bringing beavers back to London

In October 2023 Sean and partners released a family of five Eurasian beavers at Paradise Fields in Greenford, West London. It was the UK’s first urban beaver reintroduction on a fully public site. Kits were born in 2024, the first beavers born in urban London for more than 400 years, and again in 2025 and 2026.
The beavers have turned an old golf course into a wetland “sponge”. It holds back heavy rain and releases it slowly, and the flood-prone area downstream has stayed dry ever since. New birds, bats and butterflies have moved in. The project has featured in Sir David Attenborough’s Wild London on BBC One and has made headlines from CNN to NPR.
These are not a wilderness species, they are an important animal we once lived alongside up and down the country, and welcoming them back, even to our towns and cities, is the right thing to do.

Beaver Believers: a children's book that sparks big change

Sean’s debut children’s picture book follows Patrick, Abi and Jacob, three young friends who use the science of beavers, and a lot of “pester power”, to save their town from flooding. It is beautifully illustrated by Siski Kalla and loved by Lorraine Kelly, Maddie Moate and Gillian Burke.
"What a beautiful book with a wonderful message. Children will love it."
